Our research group

The Laboratory of Materials Science and Technology is a research group of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at Brescia University.

The Group is aimed at generating, developing and promoting knowledge on advanced and traditional materials, on the technologies related to their design and production, and on their engineering applications.

The group is part of INSTM ("Italian National Consortium of Materials Science and Technology") Research Unit - Brescia and is also member of INSTM Reference Center NIPLAB ("Laboratorio di Nanocompositi e Ibridi Polimerici Multifunzionali").

The group develops research activity at international level in the frame of European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS), Technical Committee 4 (Polymers, Adhesives and Composites).

The main research areas are:

- development of advanced engineering polymeric materials;

- mechanics of polymers, composites and nanocomposites;

- rheology of polymers and polymer-based systems;

- technology and engineering of plastics products.

The group takes an active part in the teaching activities of the University of Brescia. It holds both bachelor and master courses for Engineering students, supports thesis degree students and trains students of "Materials for Engineering" Ph.D. course.

The members of the Lab cooperate directly with companies both by projects and by consulting. The cooperation between the group and companies is frequently supported by CSMT Gestione Scarl (“Centro Servizi Multisettoriale e Tecnologico”), a technological knowledge transfer center.
